Guess what? I have internet again!

Bula!

Today was awesome. My host sister, Cassa, took my American roommates and I to town. I loved it! I would definitely be scared to go by myself though. There are no prices on anything here in Fiji, you bargain with them for everything. Cassa said that if you are white they triple the price because they assume you have money. We went to a craft store and I asked how much a bracelet was. He told me $18. Cassa asked what the local price was. I ended up getting it for under $2. It's made out of a giant clam.

The weather here is amazing. It's winter and I'm wearing a tank top and shorts. Every way that you look looks like a photoshopped picture on a postcard. It's absolutely beautiful here.

You know whats really funny? My cousin went to school here a while back and he was friends with a girl named Safaira. Guess what? She's my friend too :) So funny! I haven't even seem my cousin in 15 or more years and here I am meeting a mutual friend on the other side of the world. Small world huh?

Kava is nasty. Every Fijian drinks it though. It makes your tongue feel weird and if you drink a lot it makes you see things. At the welcome ceremony, everyone had to drink it. It was not my thing, but I still did it and I survived. It looks and tastes like dirty water. It's the root of some plant here. Philip likes it though, and his host family drinks a LOT and he plans to bring some back to the states. I don't understand how you can like it but hey, whatever floats your boat.

Sulus are skirts that everyone wears here. Men, woman, children, anyone. I have two. I bought one before my homestay because they said your family will require that you wear one. Mine does not. My family is very casual. They wear them when the go out, but around home no one cares. It was awesome, my host na (mom) asked out favorite colors the day we arrived, and when we got back from school we had Sulus on our bed in our favorite color. She bought them for us :)

A lot of people staying here have a completely different experience that I do. Some families all share one towel. Some families don't even have couches or tables. Barely any have T.V.s Our family is very lucky though and has a lot more. We have hot showers!!! The only ones!! :) It makes me so happy.

Well I've been hogging the computer so I should get going. I don't know if I will write again before Sydney because we are so busy. But I love and miss you all so much. I miss Michigan accents!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love you all!
