Hey everyone! I had an amazing time at the Blue Mountains! We did so much in so little time and I'm exhausted! I will tell you everything that I can fit on this page :)
So we got up at 4:00 am and got on the train to downtown Sydney. There we met up with our tour guide who was going to take us for the weekend. We saw the sunrise over the Harbour Bridge. It was beautiful. By 7:00am, we were on the bus on the way to the mountains.
First we stopped at the national park along the way. They have huge and crazy bugs in Australia. We saw the Sydney Funnel Web spider (the worlds deadliest spider), a caterpillar that could kill you in 15 minutes, and "baby" Hunter spiders. Do these look like babies to you?
We went on a 20 minute walk through the bush and saw WILD KANGAROOS!!! It was so neat. They are not scared of humans at all. Kangaroos have no natural predator, so you can get really close. I ended up seeing two, a mommy and a daddy. So cute!!
After we saw the kangaroos, we went to the Blue Mountains! They are so beautiful. I ended up climbing a few mountains!! The first one was definitely the largest and hardest. But Australia has so many waterfalls! Here are some pictures of a couple. One big one, and one small one.
The big one you can't see the bottom because it was too big for my camera! But I climbed all the way down it, and all the way back up. It only took me 15-20 minutes to climb the whole thing! I was really proud of myself.
But when we got to the bottom, the waterfall was so big that I was getting wet even from a distance! Good thing I had a poncho :)
Walking up a mountain is scary. The stairs that were carved into the stone were made hundreds of years ago by the convicts that first arrived in Australia! So they were not very sturdy looking and they were really steep. But I made it and it was worth it! Here's a picture of me about to go down, and here is a picture of Philip and I at the bottom!
We also saw more waterfalls and the Three Sisters rock formation! Our tour guide told us the old story on how they were formed and how it got the name. It was really neat!
Afterwards we climbed down another mountain, but we didn't have to climb back up! We took the worlds steepest railway back up! It was so scary!
When we got to the top of the railway, there were lots of wild birds flying everywhere. They must have known that it was a touristy place and that tourists like to feed them! I fed one of the birds. It was so exciting. I love the birds here so much, so it was the perfect thing for me to get to do! But one of the birds landed on one of the girls heads and it wouldn't get off! It was so funny!
The next day Philip and I decided to go to Jenolan Caves! It was only a few miles away, but we had to go around the mountains so it was a few hour drive. But the ride was breathtaking!
The caves were awesome. My mom told me she took me to caves when I was little, but these were the first caves I ever remember seeing. Wow! The woman showing us the caves said that these are the most famous and most intricate caves in Australia, and one of the top five in the world! This is because Australia is so old and had so much time to create these beautiful caves.
After we saw the caves, we walked up more mountains and just spend the day exploring. We acted goofy and just had a great time. We found another cave! But it was pretty small.
Well that was my trip in a nutshell! Thanks if you actually read this whole thing! I miss you all!! :)
Love, Brittaney
