Good'ay mate :)
So as you all know, I'm in Sydney. So far, I really like it. I really like living walking distance to a mall (a four story mall might I add) but my favorite part about Sydney so far is the birds. (Can you tell I'm a Biology major?)
It's so hard walking around here keeping a straight face when you see this weird looking bird making the sounds of a crying baby human. I'm not kidding, it's exactly what it sounds like.
And they look so strange too! They have parrots just grazing around Sydney. We have these birds in zoos in the U.S. When I went with Philip to the aviary in Pitt, you had to pay $3 to feed a Lorikeet and here they just prance around.
Today I went into the Australian Geographic store and bought a book on Australian birds. I love it. It's pretty small so I'm going to keep it in my purse and whenever I see a strange bird I'm going to find out what it is. I don't have a clue why I'm so excited about this.
Enough about birds...
Here are some things about Australia that I find funny so far.
*They have a chain store called "Bed, Bath, and Table". Haha! I think Bed Bath and Beyond sounds much better.
*They walk on the left side of the sidewalk and it feels really weird to me. So I just walk on the right side and dodge people.
*Taxis are extremely expensive. I bought a bike today and it didn't come assembled. Sadly, I bought the bike on the second floor of the mall. The exit is on the 4th floor. I couldn't find the elevator. I had to carry this huge heavy box up the stairs and back three miles to my apartment. I have bruises! Lol But now getting around will be a lot easier.
*Australians don't sound a thing like the Geico commercials. They actually sound british. I can sort of tell the difference, but not really. But the real Australian accent is still pretty. I just wasn't expecting it.
I need to go eat dinner, there is a free barbeque again. I already went, but I'm going to try to get in again to get some free food! Peace!
