Hey everyone!
So Philip and I are pretty sure we have the whole STA Travel thing figured out. Instead of getting a refund, we are going to take that same trip in November. We are going from November 12th- November 21st. School for me gets out November 8th and final exams don't start until the 22nd, so it's the perfect time to go. Yes, I should probably spend the time studying. But I am studying already so that all I have to do is brush up after my trip. I'm probably going to take my flash cards with me for the plane ride.
I'm happy that I still get to go on the trip. We get to go for several days longer and get to spend 3 days longer just in Darwin! I'm really excited. Darwin is at the very very north of Australia so it's hot. In November it's going to be crazy hot. Hello tan? Probably more like fried because it will be over 130 degrees.
Today has been a good day. I've relaxed, did a lot of cooking (I really missed cooking while I was away), and uploaded pictured to facebook. I probably spent over an hour on facebook today and I think I'm going to be on it less and less. I only have 50 more days in Australia. At first it sounds like a lot, but then I think about all of the things I still want to do! I have hundreds! So I need to stop facebooking and start exploring even more.
I don't know if Philip and I will have time to go to New Zealand now. We were going to try to go in November, but now we are traveling the rest of Australia. I'm not upset that I probably can't go though. It's another excuse to come back and we already want to. I really would love to scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef again. That was so amazing.
Well, as you probably could guess, you can't find the same food here as you can back at home. I eat way differently than I did back at home. I thought it would kind of be fun to take pictures for like three days or something showing you what I make and what I eat. Philip and I always have a lot of fun baking :)
And when I get home, I can't wait to cook for you guys! You are ALL trying Vegemite. I don't like it and neither will you, but that will be your taste of Australia :) I also want to make pitas and my stir fry with the same ingredients (or as close to it as possible). I doubt I will be able to use Wallaby flour :) But I'm sure it will taste nearly the same.
For breakfast today, I had "cereal" in yogurt. This is probably the best invention ever and I have no clue why we do not do this at home. I don't buy real cereal here because it's extremely expensive because they import it. (I've seen it as expensive as $9 a box!!) But I eat muesli, which is what we call granola. Sometimes I put strawberries or blueberries in it too. It's sooo good. I don't think I will ever eat cereal in milk again. Just cereal and vanilla yogurt!
For lunch, I made homemade soup and potatoes. My soup was a vegetable soup. The ingredients are carrots, mushrooms, potatoes, asparagus, broccoli, snow peas, onions, and tomato. I don't know what my favorite vegetable is anymore. I'm so much less of a picky eater. And the potatoes for the side I just put cheese on. I really liked the soup. I wanted sour cream on my potato. But just cheese is probably better for me :)
After lunch Philip and I made pitas. We eat pitas with our stir fry and if we have hommus we dip it in that. It takes a little over two hours to make, but it's fun watching them rise! They look like pillows!
Tonight for dinner we are just going to free 'pancake' night. They are good, but they are not the pancakes I am used to. These are more like crepes and they don't put syrup on them. They put ice cream, strawberries, or other fruits on them. They are more of a dessert compared to ours back at home.
I can't believe that I've already been gone for so long. I don't want to think about coming home yet! My grandma Klocek asked me today what I wanted for Christmas and I couldn't believe that December is that close. There are Christmas decorations for sale in the stores already here! AHH!! (They don't have Halloween or Thanksgiving so they are already ready for Christmas!)
Well I need to get headed to the gym. Philip is a drill sergeant :) Love and miss you all!
